You think after so many years in teaching, I’d have it down sweet as a whistle….but, no. I still get nervous on these last days thinking of packing, getting papers done, turn supplies in, disconnecting and cleaning computers…huh. I never know how to stack it. But, here we are.

It’s been a long day packing. Then coming home helping my daughter with a last school project, getting kids to bed early for a couple of more days. I finally get to relax and unwind with the Hubs watching our TV shows like CRISIS and 24. At times I begin to doze off, fighting the sleep so I can watch my favorite shows.

I fumble to bed, “Gnite, hon, I’m tired”.

“Okay, be there in a bit”, he says.

I fall asleep quickly. Up before I know it –early bird.

So glad it’s almost over.

Daily Prompt: The Luckiest Person

The birthday boy, of course!  It is my husband’s birthday weekend actually.  Lucky man he gets a long weekend too (MLK Monday).  🙂  Here in this part of the hemisphere, it’s 9 a.m. on Saturday so he is the first person I have encountered today when I rolled over.  It is pretty easy to write about him because he is such a strong person in my life and have a lot to say.  But today, a little different perspective, why Hubs is  “lucky”.

Right off the top of my head, Hubs gets to travel.  He hasn’t told me how he “despises” traveling so I can assume he’s okay with it.   I think he’s lucky because he gets to take off twice a month and have some alone time without the wife and kids “consuming”  his every move and space.  We are like that, we spend a lot of time together doing our family things, as you may have read some of our adventures on this blog.  Our alone time is pretty scarce.  But I think he gets some pretty fine time on his travels so he is lucky.   He needs it too.   We all do.

One day the kids will be grown and won’t need us and our time so much.  Our time will come when we can travel together perhaps.

Princess and Prince on the Fourth

Day 16

(Disney World Road Trip)

Today was the visit to Magic Kingdom!  My kids were in good company with all the Disney princesses, princes and cheerful characters.  They were brave pirates boarding Captain Sparrow’s ship and Buzz Lightyear’s space ship.  It will be a good day!

We all boarded a bus from the hotel to take us to the park.  We were excited as you can see.  The bus driver and all in the bus were very friendly.  As we will find out later in the evening, not ALL are friendly.  But for this moment, there were twinkles in all our eyes for the day to begin.

After a series of bus rides and trains, we finally approached the park.  And there in all her glory was the Cinderella castle.  What we had all been waiting for.  It was crumby that at that moment, the castle was closed.  They were preparing for some-sorta show.  But there it was!

On this particular day, it was incredibly crowded.  It was also the 4th of July.  There were thousands of other tourists that had the same idea we did going to Magic Kingdom on the fourth.  For the first time ever, we rented a scooter to help me and my knee along in the day’s walking.  It was quite interesting to say the least, but I am so glad we did.  I was able to enjoy the sights with my family for the ENTIRE day and into the evening.  It was wonderful!  I would plop my sweetie daughter on it with me when she also was getting tired.  Excellent day.

Among the many things to do at the kingdom was to take as many pictures with the characters as possible!  My kids have outgrown the “fear of people in suits”!  Boy, it was a terror trying to take them to see Santa Claus when they were smaller.  It just goes to show they are growing up and will not be small forever.  I am happy we were able to give them this experience with Goofy!  He truly was goofy with them.  Cristal was not too convinced because she would look at him like…really?!  She thinks she’s so big!  Danny didn’t want to at first, but we convinced him. They took the picture.  They made Mom and Dad happy.

We took plenty of rides of the Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Carribean, and also climbed the treehouse of the Swiss Family Robinson.  But some of the stories my husband and I realized the kids did not know.  They did not know who the Swiss family was, and Cristal hadn’t seen the entire movie of Cinderella.  Bad mommy, bad mommy…I know!  She doesn’t know the older princesses, only the newer ones.

This is how we ended our day at the park, with fireworks!  They were quite beautiful.  Even though we were not in front of the castle.  I thought to myself, this IS why we came here and we are not at the castle?!  I would give myself several Gibbs’ thumps on the head for not being there but realized it would’ve been impossible to get there and out on time.  There were THOUSANDS of people there.  So we found a nearby sitting place while we snacked on hot dogs, chips and soda, and we watched!  You can see the castle off the bottom right.  I’m sure it looked beautiful.  Looked great from where we were too.

Now the journey back to the bus stop.  Whew!  That was an adventure in itself.  It was a long walk.  I know I would not have lasted the entire day on my knee.  While some people were kind and thoughtful, others were not and did not give a flip.  Those inconsiderate and rude people broke my heart because there are people who need the scooters 24/7.  Bless their hearts!  But for this 4th of July, I enjoyed this time immensely with my husband, our  prince and princess!   They loved the Magic Kingdom, but it was time for this prince and princess to hit their royal beds in our kingdom!

Good night and sweet dreams.

Oh, Donald!

Disney Quest

Day 15
(Disney World Road trip)

Our kids just LOVE to spend the night in hotels and have breakfasts at the hotel or other places. We had a great “beginning of the day” with a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel with hot eggs, bacon, pancakes, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and warm coffee for Mom. My babies were in heaven!

On the second day of our Florida trip, we went out to Downtown Disney again but this time spent the afternoon and evening at Disney Quest. We were not quite sure what we were walking into until we saw the 5 floors of video fun!! OMG…the kids were once again in video heaven! We really had a good time playing games together!

As you can see in the picture above, there were interactive games!  Even the adults could play!  Of course, my husband had to join and partner in with my son in the battle of aliens.  I joined in in the more subtle activities of art classes with my daughter in the first floor.  I drew Donald!  Not bad if I say so myself!

My 7-year-old daughter wasn’t too happy with her drawing, “Mommy, you draw so good!  I don’t draw too good.”

“Thank you, baby, but I love yours! When your big like me you are going to draw even better than me!” I say chuckling.  My sweetie girl just smiles.

I decided to just snap a picture with my iPhone.  I did not want to pay $50 for my Donald!  Oh, Donald, not this time!  But, wait for the rest of the pictures I share.  We actually spend way over $50!

Day 13

After two days of driving, we were all pretty tired but excited to get to our destination.  I tell you, I think the kids did better than we did because I had to move to the back seat to stretch out my very cramped-up leg/knee (bad one) and Danny moved to the front with hubby.  I know, bad parent.  :-/  It was for a short ride only when we arrived in Orlando.  We checked in to our hotel and went out to dinner.

Arrival 3

After dinner, we walked to Downtown Disney.  It was a pretty fun place.  Everything was free!  I mean no entry fees.  We pretty much were doing everything “as we go”.  We walked around a bit more sightseeing.

At left, we were waiting to be seated at Planet Hollywood.  The kids wanted to start taking pictures.  There was an interesting restaurant called TRex which Danny and Cristal refused to enter.  :-/

Arrival 2

There was also an amazing river with paddle boats.  As well as a dragon made out of legos. Awesome!  Again, we were pretty tired.  I am giving it a rest while kids went into The Once Upon a Toy store.

We made our way back to the hotel which was just across the street.  As soon as our heads hit the pillow, we were all out.  We had to get rested up for the next day!  Sometimes it feels you need a vacation from your vacation…because days go quickly and busy.  But I will say…as long as it’s fun, it’s fine with me!

Good night!

The Trees

Trees 2
Day 9

Home sweet home! We are back from our Disney World road trip. I will be playing catch up on my daily posts which I promised back in June. I found it hard to blog. Our days were busy. We did not want to waste time so we filled our days with sight seeing and fun. In the evenings, we would arrive back at the hotel late so we were tired. We slept semi-late, and had warm breakfasts to start our days. However, I did manage to write in my iPad journal and take lots of pictures which I will share in my upcoming posts.

The trip was a success! The kids behaved well, while I think the grown ups (me and my hubby) were the ones that had to stop frequently. My husband will never admit it, but we know! At any rate, we made it to our destinations. Along the way, I could not help but notice the marvelous trees! As Dorothy might’ve said, I knew we were not in Texas anymore. For the next 10 days, this is all we would see. Just beautiful! It had to be the southeast because all through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida the trees were tall, vibrant, green and gorgeous!

The trees

My sweetheart and my kids could not believe why I was making a big deal out of the trees. If they only knew how and why to appreciate things, it would make the trip so much more fun and satisfying knowing we are experiencing something new and different. In addition, it would supply me with more material to write about and be inspired by! As an amateur writer, it is a must!

So for the next few days, I will be sharing my INSPIRATIONS, so to say, of our road trip. I am glad to be back home but now have new material to share. For today, it is the trees!
